I don't have a home network, what network cable do I need to use ? | That depends on the network cards in both of your computers. If you have compatible wireless network cards in both PCs, you may be able to connect them wirelessly. The vast majority of wired network cards made since 2000 have been "Ethernet with 8P8C connectors". The following advise is based on that assumption. Note:8P8C connectors are often referred (mistakenly) to as "Rj45" by vendors. You need a "Cat5(or better) Ethernet over twisted pair with 8P8C connectors" cable. You also need to specify either "straight-through" or "cross-over" as follows. If at least one of the computers is relatively recently manufactured then they will have a built-in feature called "Auto-MDIX" and you can use a "straight-through" cable. Otherwise you will need to use a "cross-over" version of the cable. Apple have a list of which of their products support "Auto-MDIX". |
